What if the darkness you perceive isn't actually real? Lesson 302 from A Course in Miracles challenges our fundamental understanding of perception with a revolutionary idea: darkness exists only in our imagination, while light is always there for us to see.
The suffering we think we experience isn't actually real—it's a product of forgetting our true identity. This profound lesson reveals that spiritual sight isn't about gaining something new but rather removing the blindness caused by judgment. The holy world—the real world—has been patiently waiting, unchanged, until we're willing to see it.
Through forgiveness, we transform our vision. Christ's vision doesn't erase the world but reinterprets it completely. Fear naturally dissolves in the presence of love, just as darkness vanishes when light appears. To view the world through Christ's eyes is to allow our perception to be healed, turning every apparent shadow into a witness to the light within our mind.
Forgiveness is the key that unlocks Christ's vision. It doesn't make the world holy—rather, it allows us to see the holiness that has always been there, previously obscured by our judgments. When we forgive, we withdraw our projections and finally behold what truly exists: pure innocence.
The light has never left you. It has only been awaiting your willingness to stop imagining it is absent. Begin your day with the resolution not to confuse your own imaginings with God's reality. When darkness seems to appear, recognize it as your own projection rather than objective truth. Choose light instead. In the evening, reflect on moments where perceived darkness became opportunities for forgiveness and seeing only light.
Where darkness was, I now look upon the light. Will you join me in this practice of forgiveness today?
