I’m excited to bring you this conversation with Taylor Roe, who recently won the 2025 USATF Half Marathon Championships with an impressive time of 67 minutes and 22 seconds on a tough course in Atlanta. This victory was a personal best for Taylor, improving her time by over a minute. What makes this win even more remarkable is that it came as a surprise to many. Taylor has mentioned in several post-race interviews that her goal was to make the team, and winning the race wasn’t necessarily on her radar. But she made it happen. Along with Taylor, Emma Grace Hurley and Amanda Vestri—both of whom have also been guests on this show recently—secured spots on the team as well. This means we’ll be sending a very strong trio of athletes to the World Championships in the half marathon. Taylor is part of Puma Elite in the Raleigh-Durham area, which is exciting for me personally since I also live in the region. She’s coached by Alistair and Amy Cragg. Interestingly, Taylor debuted in the half marathon at the Houston half, and we get to talk about that experience, as well as her decision to race in the Half Marathon Championships. While Taylor loves the track, she’s currently focused on the 10,000 meters and gearing up for some races on the track. Taylor ran for Oklahoma State University, where she was an NCAA Indoor Champion, the 2023 Big 12 Champion in the 5,000 meters, and runner-up in the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships. She credits her college coach, Dave Smith, for playing a significant role in shaping her career. Last summer, she finished eighth in the 5,000 meters at the US Olympic Trials, and we all know that Taylor’s path will eventually lead to the marathon. But for now, she’s focused on maximizing her potential on the track before taking that step. It’s clear that an exciting career lies ahead for Taylor Roe, and I’m honored to have had her on the podcast this week. What we talked about 7:00- Recapping her win at the US Half champs and pro career so far 14:45- How she feels racing on big stages 18:10- Recapping how the race played out at the US Half Champs 30:00- The decision to join Puma 37:20- Where the world champs will be 38:25- What’s next for Taylor 45:00- Having Amy and Alistair as her coaches 47:00- Her college experience 53:30- End of podcast questions Show notes: Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order…

I’m beyond excited to bring a track athlete to the podcast today—two-time Olympic silver medalist and world championship silver medalist, Kenny Bednarek! He won silver in the 200 meters at the Tokyo Olympics, the Paris Olympics, and the 2022 World Championships. Not to mention, he’s also a 10-time Diamond League champion and runs for Nike. If you’ve seen the Sprint documentary, you’ll recognize Kenny, as he was highlighted in season two, which was really cool to watch. Aside from his incredible accomplishments on the track, Kenny is also an advocate for adoption. He is from Wisconsin. We talked about his journey, which includes running at the community college level for Indian Hills Community College and then turning pro after a year. One of the coolest parts of this episode was when I found out how excited my kids were about this interview—they were definitely more excited about talking to a sprinter than any long-distance runner I’ve had on. So, I made sure to sneak in a few questions from them, which was a fun twist! We also dove into a bit of football talk because Kenny actually used to play the sport. Fun fact: his high school team won both the state championships in track and field and football during his senior year. Kenny is also gearing up for the Grand Slam series as a racer—this is the new competition series that Michael Johnson’s team is putting on, and it’s going to be really exciting! The first event, the Kingston Slam, takes place from April 4th to 6th. After that, there will be one competition each month through June, including the Miami Slam, the Philadelphia Slam, and the LA Slam. Kenny is one of 96 athletes competing in this series, and I can’t wait to see how this brings even more exposure and excitement to the sport of track and field! What we talked about: 7:30- Kenny’s training group 14:00- Reflections on some of his Olympic and World Champs teams 16:25- Kenny’s girlfriend and how they met 21:45- Grand Slam Track and growing the sport 27:00- His adoption story 34:50- Kenny’s time playing football 41:35- What his trajectory in the sport looks like to him 45:45- Technique in the sprints 52:00- Picking himself up after dissapointing results 55:40- Questions form the Hein boys 1:00:00- Competing for a junior college and then going pro 1:03:15- End of podcast questions Show notes: Zen in the Art of Archery Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Cure Hydration Go to CureHydration.com/another and use the code “another for 20% off your first order Maui Nui Go to mauinuivenison.com/lindsey Check out Lindsey Hein’s training plans HERE !…

Today on the show, we’re joined by the incredible Calli Hauger-Thackery, and wow, she’s definitely one to watch right now. She just ran a massive PR in Japan, clocking in a time of 66:58 for the half marathon, which placed her second. Recently, she also returned to the track for the first time in eight years, where she raced indoors. Calli’s versatility as an athlete is truly something to admire. She made her marathon debut at the McKirdy Micro Marathon in 2023, where she won with an impressive 2:22:17. That victory set the stage for an incredible year ahead. Not long after, she was selected to represent Great Britain at the Paris Olympics, although she had to DNF that race due to a variety of challenges. We dive into all of that in the episode. But Calli didn’t stop there. She came back strong, running a PR of 2:21:24 in Berlin, and then went on to win the California International Marathon (CIM) last year with a 2:24:28, including a thrilling sprint to the finish. She’s sponsored by Nike and coached by her husband, Nick, and she’s been crushing some truly fast times. We recorded this before the Gate River Run, but Calli went on the win that last weekend. She’ll also be running the TEN 10k on the track and is preparing for her first Boston Marathon in April. It’s going to be an exciting time for her, and she’s just such a positive presence in the running world, always bringing great energy and showing up alongside all of these amazing women running incredible times. Enjoy! What we talked about: 4:30- Catching up on training 10:30- Life outside of running 12:30- Callie and Nick’s wedding 20:10- Looking ahead at the Boston Marathon 24:40- Reflections on her marathon debut 29:45- Her fueling strategy 31:05- Her Olympic experience 38:30- Her season after the Olympics 56:00- Her recent 66:58 half marathon 59:00- Having Nick as her coach 1:00:04- Looking ahead at the future of her career 1:10:30- Her sponsorship with Nike 1:14:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: Rental Tycoons Mile to Go by Joan Benoit Samuelson Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Cure Hydration Go to CureHydration.com/another and use the code “another for 20% off your first order Anderson Maple Go to andersonmaple.com and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off BitchStick Go to BitchStick.com and use the code “Lindsey” for 20% off your order…

1 Episode 595: Kellyn Taylor – New Chapter and Big Plans for 2025; Next Up: USA Half Marathon Champs This Weekend 59:27
Today, my guest is Kellyn Taylor, and I’m so happy to have her back on the podcast! Kellyn is a returning guest, and she’s been on the show multiple times over the eight years I’ve been hosting. Most recently, we had her on just before the Olympic marathon trials last February. Kellyn’s got some exciting races coming up. She’s gearing up for the US Half Marathon Championships this weekend, and she recently ran the Mesa Half Marathon, where she had an amazing race, finishing second with a time of 69:15. Right now, Kellyn is also training for Boston, where she’ll be running this spring. She’s also got the New York City Half on her schedule. So, lots of great races ahead! Kellyn ran for Hoka NAZ Elite for a decade, and we’ve all watched her and that team grow and achieve incredible things over the years. It feels like I’ve kind of grown up alongside her in the industry. But this past year, Hoka made the decision to drop Kellyn, along with Steph Bruce and Lauren Hagans, some of the team’s original members. We talk with Kellyn about how she’s processed that change over the last few months, what’s been going on in her world since, and what new shoes she’s trying out. We also dive into the topic of ageism, because as Kellyn puts it, nobody gets to decide when your career ends—only you get to decide that . Last year was definitely a tough one for Kellyn. I think she called it a “hard year but a decent year”—she says it in the episode, but it was a year of recovery after some injuries. Despite that, she managed to place 15th at the US Olympic Marathon Trials, and then she went on to place sixth in the 10,000 meters at the US Trials. After that, she placed 10th in New York, running a 2:27:59. That was actually her worst finish ever at New York, but it’s still incredible. She’s always been in the top 10 there, and it was her fifth time racing the course. I’m really excited for Kellyn and what’s ahead for her in 2025. She’s got big goals and is looking forward to trying new things this year. I’ll definitely be cheering hard for her. So, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Kellyn Taylor. What we talked about: 3:00- Catching up with Kellyn 5:05- Running the half marathon championships this weekend 12:50- The cuts from HOKA and reflections on her past few years 18:00- NYC Marathon 22:00- Looking ahead to the Boston Marathon 34:00- What’s exciting Kellyn in life and in running 37:45- Her kids and family 44:00- What shoes she is trying out 46:20- What her future with sponsorships looks like 50:00- Favorite memories over her career so far 52:00- Her plans to race trails 54:00- End of podcast questions Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Cure Hydration Go to CureHydration.com/another and use the code “another for 20% off your first order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order Anderson Maple Go to andersonmaple.com and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off…
In this episode, we’re sitting down with professional marathoner Annie Frisbie, who runs for Puma and has been with them since 2021. Annie made her marathon debut that same year at the 2021 New York City Marathon, where she ran an impressive 2:26:18 and finished in seventh place. I’m not sure why it took me this long to get Annie on the podcast, but I’m so glad we finally made it happen! Annie’s been recovering from a hamstring injury after the Chicago Marathon this past fall, where she ran a solid 2:27:52. But now, she’s gearing up for her second Boston Marathon, and I can’t wait to see how she tackles that iconic course a second time around. We all know how much we learn from our first time running Boston, so it’ll be interesting to hear about what she’s doing differently this year. Annie trains with the Minnesota Distance Elite team, alongside one of our favorites, Dakota Lindwurm, who’s also a great friend and training partner of Annie’s. Before her professional career, Annie ran for Iowa State, and we get into that a bit too. It was such a pleasure to sit down and chat with Annie, and I think you’ll enjoy getting to know her in this episode. What we talked about: 3:00- Gearing up for the Boston Marathon! 10:00- What her recovery looks like from injuries 21:45- Sub 3 project with Puma 23:40- What’s ahead for Annie 27:00- Her race tactics and workouts that she loves 30:00- Reflections on the Olympic Trials 34:00- Annie’s marathoning career 45:20- Training in Minnesota 49:00- Training plans for the winter Show notes: Books recommended Game of Thrones Series Open Shows recommended: The Boys The Bear White Lotus Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Cure Hydration Go to CureHydration.com/another and use the code “another for 20% off your first order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 30% off your order…

I’m so excited to share this conversation with Amanda Vestri, who is an absolute joy to interview. She’s got a lot to say about her goals with running and how her mindset has evolved over time. It was inspiring hearing her talk about how she views the sport and what’s ahead for her. Recently, Amanda ran an impressive 67:35 at the Houston Half Marathon, marking her second-ever half. Her debut was in Orlando, where she won and ran 68:12. She was initially supposed to run the Valencia Half, known for its speed, but due to an injury that popped up just weeks before, she had to pull out. Instead, she raced in Orlando and then in Houston, which led to an amazing result. At Houston, she finished as the second American behind Weini Kelati, and fourth overall. With the Half Marathon Championships coming up in Atlanta this March, it’s going to be exciting to see Amanda, Weini, and many other fast women battling it out. The field will be stacked! Amanda is sponsored by Brooks and runs with ZAP Fitness. She ran for Syracuse University after initially starting her college career at Iowa State. In our conversation, she reflects on her journey post-college and how it wasn’t quite what she expected. The path to finding the right team and sponsorship wasn’t smooth at first, but ZAP Fitness really gave her the opportunity she needed. And now she has a sponsorship with Brooks! Speaking of her sponsorship with Brooks, she shares a wild story about signing her deal just an hour before the Olympic Trials, which is something I found so interesting. Amanda also had an amazing result at the Olympic Trials in the 10,000 meters, finishing fifth while coming off a COVID recovery, which is an incredible accomplishment given the competition. She currently lives in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, where ZAP Fitness is based, and it’s always a pleasure to chat with her. I know when she runs her first marathon, it’s going to be something special. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! Thanks for being here and enjoy my chat with Amanda Vestri. Today, we have Paralympian Hannah Dederick on the show. Hannah is a two-time Paralympian and a wheelchair athlete in the T-54 class. She competed in the Tokyo Paralympics at just 18 years old, making her the youngest wheelchair athlete at those Games. In Tokyo, she placed fourth in the 100 meters. At the Paris Paralympics, she competed in the 100, 400, and 800 meters, finishing sixth in the 100, fourth in the 400, and seventh in the 800, making it to all three event finals. In addition to her Paralympic achievements, Hannah is a three-time marathoner, having competed in the New York, Boston, and Chicago marathons. She also made history by winning the first-ever National Collegiate Wheelchair Championship in the 100 meters at Hayward Field. This was a major milestone, as it marked the first time there had been a National Collegiate Wheelchair Championship, alongside other events like basketball and tennis. Big progress is being made in the world of para-sport! Hannah’s story is truly incredible. Born in China with spina bifida, she was adopted at the age of four from an orphanage. She discovered para-sport at the age of 12 through her local Shriners Hospital, and from there, the rest is history. She has been competing in para-sport for over 10 years now, making her world stage debut at just 16 years old. Currently, she is studying at the University of Illinois. Hannah’s journey is remarkable, and I’m excited for you to hear her story. I hope this conversation not only inspires you but also opens your eyes to the world of para-sport. Thanks for being here, and please enjoy my conversation with Hannah Dederick. I’m excited to share that my guest on today’s podcast is Emily Infeld. We all love Emily! She’s a regular here on the I’ll Have Another Podcast, and it’s always such a pleasure to have her back on. My favorite story about Emily goes way back to 2016, when I first started this podcast. I had this idea that maybe I could get some professional athletes to come on the show, and Emily was one of the very first pros to say yes. It’s been really cool to see how far both of us have come since then. As I’ve progressed in my podcasting journey, I’ve been able to cheer Emily on, watch her grow, and see all the incredible things she’s been doing in the sport. Not only has she achieved amazing things on the track, but she’s also become such a powerful advocate for mental health, which is something that resonates with so many people. Emily is one of the most real, authentic people I know in this sport, and I’m excited to share this conversation with you. For a little background, Emily is a 2015 World Silver Medalist in the 10,000 meters, and a 2018 Silver Medalist at the US Cross Country Championships. She’s represented Team USA six times, and she competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was with Nike for a long time (over 12 years!!), and just recently announced that she’ll be joining the Brooks Running team. Emily is one of those people who is so easy to talk to—kind, genuine, and you feel that authenticity in every conversation with her. It really comes through in this interview. So, please enjoy my conversation with the wonderful Emily Infeld! What we talked about: 3:15- Emily’s new partnership with Brooks 5:05- Emily’s goals going forward 12:55- Reflections on her Olympic Trials in 2024 19:50- Training with Team Boss 23:00- Max’s 5k streak 31:00- Emily’s new training setup 41:30- Reflections on her time with Nike and Bowerman 50:00- End of podcast chat! Today on the podcast, I’m excited to share my conversation with American record holder Weini Kelati. She recently ran 66:09, breaking her own American record in the half marathon at the Houston Half Marathon, where she placed second. Weini is an absolute force in distance running, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. Can you even imagine what will happen when she finally lines up for her first marathon? There are so many exciting things ahead for her career. Weini was the 10,000 meter champion at the Olympic Trials last summer, and she went on to place eighth in the 10,000 at the Olympics. She’s an Under Armour athlete, coached and represented by Stephen Haas, and trains with the Dark Sky Distance group in Flagstaff. In 2014, when she was just 17 years old, Weini traveled from her home country of Eritrea to Eugene, Oregon, to compete in the 3,000 meters at the World Junior Championships. After the race, she made the decision to stay in the U.S. She found a place to live in Leesburg, Virginia, and went on to finish high school, all while running for her high school team, getting a job, and learning English—all completely independently at just 17. She then went on to run for the University of New Mexico, where she won the 2019 NCAA Cross-Country Championship. I have to say, this conversation is not long enough to cover Weini’s entire journey, but she’s been through a lot and has worked incredibly hard to get where she is today. I can’t wait for her to write a book one day because it’s going to be an amazing story. Anyway, I hope you’re as excited as I am to hear this conversation. Big thanks to Stephen Haas and his agency for making this happen. Enjoy the conversation! Today on the podcast, we’re excited to welcome back Dani Jones, a professional runner for New Balance. Dani has recently announced a significant change in her training: she’ll be joining the Very Nice Track Club, where she’ll be coached by Ron Warhurst and Sierra Willis. Before this move, Dani had been training with Team Boss and Coach Joe Bosshard since graduating from the University of Colorado, where she was a four-time NCAA champion. Dani reflects on her time with Team Boss and how incredible of a team environment they had there. In this episode, Dani shares her plans to experiment with different race distances. Last summer, she ran a personal best in the 1500 meters, running a time of 4:00 flat, and placed ninth at the U.S. Olympic Trials in both 2021 and 2024. Now at 28 years old, Dani is gearing up for the indoor season and looking forward to a new chapter in her career with this change in both her training environment and coaching team. With so much potential still ahead, Dani has a lot to be excited about. For those interested in hearing Dani’s first appearance on the podcast, our first conversation (episode 256!!) with Dani was back in 2020 when she had just turned pro and was navigating the strange times of the COVID era. We have a truly phenomenal athlete on the podcast today, Trevon Jenifer. Trevon is a three-time Paralympic gold medalist, a one-time Paralympic bronze medalist, and a world champion for Team USA. He plays wheelchair basketball and was born with congenital phocomelia, a rare condition in which a person is born without lower limbs. In this episode, Trevon shares what life was like growing up without lower limbs and how he discovered adaptive sports. Before excelling in wheelchair basketball, Trevon was a wrestler. He has represented Team USA for over 15 years. He’s also a proud father of two and works for the Secret Service. In our conversation, Trevon opens up about his passion for hard work, the immense sacrifices he’s made to reach his goals, and the crucial role that mindset plays in his success. I know you’ll take away so much from this inspiring conversation with him. It was truly an honor to interview Trevon for the podcast. On a personal note, I recently watched wheelchair basketball in the Paralympics, and it was absolutely incredible. It’s been so exciting to see how much more media attention and coverage the Paralympics are getting this year. Let’s keep that momentum going! We’ve got a great episode today with Katie Izzo. I first met Katie at the 2023 Monumental Marathon in Indianapolis. I had the opportunity to be part of a panel with her and a few other pro athletes at the expo, and later, I got to announce her victory in the half marathon there – which was her debut half marathon. That was back in 2023, and since then, she’s been running super well. Just recently, she ran another personal best in the half marathon in Orlando, dropping 16 seconds for a new PR of 70 minutes and 27 seconds. Katie has an impressive resume. She’s represented Team USA in cross country at the World Cross Country Championships, and she also recently placed third at the Sound Running Cross Country Championships. This summer she competed in her second Olympic Trials, where she placed 13th in the 10,000 meters. While that wasn’t the place she had hoped for, she’ll share more about her journey to the start line and the lessons she’s learned from that experience. Katie also competed in the 2020 (well, technically 2021) Olympic Trials, representing Arkansas, where she had an incredible college career. She placed third at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and helped lead her team to an NCAA championship title in cross country. Katie also spent time competing for Cal Poly during her undergrad, and now she runs for Adidas, calling Flagstaff home as her training base. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Katie! What we talked about: 4:45- Her training team, running for Adidas, and moving to Flagstaff 9:15- Her college career 20:10- The decision to run professionally 22:45- Her two Olympic Trials experiences 32:15- Her half marathon debut 38:45- Making Team USA for cross country 41:15- Plans to run a marathon 32:55- Injuries that she battled this year leading into the Olympic Trials 46:30- What’s next for Katie – Houston Half 55:00- Religious/spiritual beliefs and mainfestation 1:05:20- End of podcast questions Media Suggestions: Ted Lasso Shrinking The Expanded Podcast The Secret- Rhonda Byrn The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success – Deepak Chopra The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle Becoming Supernatural – Dr. Joe Dispenza Choose Strong – Sally McRae Artists Recommended: The Band Perry Keith Urban Vance Joy Eric Church Eli Young Band Luke Bryan Post Malone Jelly Roll Morgan Wallen Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Take on Barilla’s Protein Pasta Winter Energy Challenge on the Strava Fitness App Complete 10 days of movement for your Barilla Pasta reward! In today’s episode of the podcast, we’re continuing with a special series where we step outside the world of running and hear from athletes in other sports. Normally, you tune in for interviews with professional and everyday runners, but today, we’re joined by mountain biker and Olympian, Savilia Blunk. Savilia is an eight-time national champion and recently competed in the Paris Olympics, where she placed 12th. During our conversation, we discuss what it’s like to reach the pinnacle of the sport—making the Olympic team—and what it feels like to walk away from a race with both triumphs and disappointments. Savilia opens up about how she’s moving forward in her training after the Olympics and how she’s approaching her next steps as an elite athlete. What I love most about this series is the opportunity to view the world of sport through the eyes of athletes who excel in disciplines outside of running. There’s so much we can learn from them, particularly when it comes to developing a champion’s mindset. Whether they’re on a bike, in a rowing boat, scaling a rock wall, or spiking a volleyball, these athletes are tackling their own challenges and bringing invaluable insights to the table. We’ve had the privilege of speaking with some incredible athletes in this series, and I encourage you to check out the other interviews, which will be linked in the show notes. Even though we’re talking about different sports, there’s a lot of crossover, especially in the mental aspects of training, and I think you’ll find the episodes just as engaging as this one. For me personally, as a parent, these conversations are a great opportunity to reflect on how I can encourage my own kids to be hard workers and to take pride in all the things they care about. As I mention in this episode, it’s a delicate balance—teaching kids to push themselves, work hard, and strive for excellence, while also allowing them the freedom to explore and enjoy what they do. Moving our bodies should be fun, and hard work can be, too. If you’re enjoying this series, or know someone who might appreciate hearing from athletes outside of the running world, please share the episode with them. The best way to support the podcast is by leaving a rating or review on iTunes or wherever you listen. Thank you for being here, and I hope you enjoy my conversation with Savilia Blunk! What we talked about: 4:30- Savilia’s introduction to the sport 12:05- Learning how to work hard 15:10- How she is feeling coming off of the Olympics 27:15- Bike maintenance 29:35- When she plans to get married 30:20- The moment that she qualified for the Olympics and how the qualification system works 39:30- How cross country mountain biking works and what the course is like 47:10- The technical side of the sport 49:50- Mindset while competing 52:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: All Fours Trips for Kids – nonprofit organization Other athletes in this series: Episode 567 with Kristen Faulkner Episode 570 with Kendall Chase Episode 571 with Jennifer Lozano Episode 573 with Sophie Bukovec Episode 575 with Piper Kelly Support our sponsors: Donna Marathon Join me the weekend of January 31st-February 2nd, 2025 for the Donna Marathon weekend! In this episode, I’m joined by two of my favorite people in the running World—Kara Goucher and Des Linden. That’s right, these two incredible women are not only co-hosts of the podcast Nobody Asked Us , but they’re also beloved athletes in the running world. Both have been on this show multiple times, and it’s always such a pleasure to chat with them. Kara, who used to host The Relay podcast with me (a short-lived but super fun time, we all miss her over there!!), and of course, Des—who we all know for her unforgettable 2018 Boston Marathon win. But what I think stands out most about Des is her remarkable consistency over the years and the way she’s always shown up, not just for herself but for the running community. “Keep showing up” is her motto, and so many in the running world have adopted that phrase! Both Kara and Des are also authors. They are both authors—Kara’s Running for Women and Des’ Choosing to Run —and it’s been so fun watching their friendship blossom over the past year, especially as they teamed up to launch their podcast. We talk a bit about the evolution of their relationship and podcast in this episode. Kara is a two-time Olympic and World Championship silver medalist, and one of the most authentic and honest people I’ve ever met. Her voice and perspective, along with Des’, make their podcast so special. What excites me most about Nobody Asked Us is how it has the potential to take our sport of running beyond our little bubble. Both Kara and Des have such a wide-reaching platform, and their podcast is a great way to bring new people into the sport and spark more interest in running, which is ultimately so beneficial for all of us. I’m cheering them on as they continue to grow and succeed in both their podcasting journey and beyond. I hope this intro did them justice, though most of you listening probably already know these two, so they don’t need much of an introduction! That said, I’ll include links to prior episodes with Kara and Des in these show notes if you want to dive into those past conversations. Okay, enough from me—please enjoy this conversation with Kara and Des! Today on the podcast, we’re joined by Molly Grabill, who just had a massive breakthrough with a personal best of 2:26:46 at the Valencia Marathon. It was a big day for her, and in this episode, she opens up about not just the time she ran, but the sense of satisfaction she felt crossing the finish line strong. Marathons are tough, and many of us can relate to the challenge of that final 10K. For Molly, it was the culmination of getting the right nutrition, strength training, and preparation all aligned for the perfect race. If you’re not already familiar with Molly’s story, she’s been on the podcast before—Episode 356 back in 2022—after her second-place finish at the CIM Marathon with a time of 2:29:17. Over the years, Molly has built a reputation as one of the top marathoners in the U.S. She ran for the University of Oregon, where she became a five-time All-American, and has competed in the 2020 U.S. Marathon Trials in Atlanta (placing 25th) and again in the 2024 Trials in Orlando (where she placed 13th). Molly currently lives in Boulder and trains under coach Rick Rojas, who is the father of fellow elite runner Nell Rojas. She’s also a full-time professional, balancing a busy career with her intense training. In this episode, we also talk about her love of reading and the ways she keeps her mind sharp off the track. It was great to catch up with Molly, and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did recording it! What we talked about: 3:30- Recapping Valencia Marathon 5:45- Goals going into the race 7:40- How the race played out for Molly 13:30- Looking at Molly’s marathon career as a whole 14:00- How she avoids the comparsion trap in running 16:45- Her training build leading into Valencia 20:30- Her boyfriend, Morgan’s recent success in the triathlon 23:15- Her coaching situation 27:50- Reflecting on her Olympic Marathon trials result 39:55- What’s next for Molly 44:30- End of podcast questions Show notes: Media recommendations: A Court of Thorns and Roses Box Set Fourth Wing Twilight Harry Potter Series Throne of Glass It Ends with Us Below Deck Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Cornbread Use the code “Another” at checkout for 30% off your order…

I’m so glad you’re here today for another episode in our coaching series, brought to you by V.O2. Today’s guest is James McKirdy, the founder of McKirdy Trained, one of the largest coaching businesses in the United States. James has built an incredible coaching collective made up of compassionate and knowledgeable coaches, each with years of experience working with athletes of all types and abilities. In this episode, we talk about a really exciting project James has been involved with—the McKirdy Micro Marathon. If you haven’t heard of it, this was a short-loop race held last October, designed to help fast runners run even faster. The event was a massive success and gained a lot of attention. One of James’s athletes, McKenna Myler, who placed seventh at the Olympic Trials, actually secured her trials qualifier there. Callie Thackery also ran a personal best of 2:21. It was an exciting and innovative event that really made waves in the running community. James also works with incredible athletes like Tebello Ramakongana, who placed seventh at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Tebello’s marathon personal best is 2:07, and he has a half marathon PR of 1:00:17—truly impressive times. James shares a bit about working with athletes like Tebello and how they’ve shaped their journeys toward success. One of the things we dive into is James’s work with athletes who come to Flagstaff to train and his professional program that they’ve developed there. The Flagstaff environment is known for its high-altitude training, and James’s program has helped many athletes reach their potential. You can learn more about James’s coaching at mckirdytrained.com , and if you’re looking for coaching support, they offer a wealth of expertise to athletes of all levels. I hope you enjoy this conversation with James McKirdy as much as I did! It’s always a pleasure to chat with someone who’s so passionate about coaching and supporting athletes at every stage of their journey. Enjoy the episode! 1 Episode 581: Roberta Groner – 2:29 at the Valencia Marathon Only 21 Seconds off of her PR & Going all in on Coaching 58:28
Roberta Groner has accomplished so much since her last appearance on the podcast, and I can’t wait to dive into her journey. Most recently, Roberta ran the Valencia Marathon, where she came within just 21 seconds of her personal best, running a 2:29. This was a huge day for Roberta, especially considering her PR is from 2019 in Rotterdam. Back in 2017, 2018, and 2019, Roberta was getting a lot of attention for her performances, including running in the low 2:30s at CIM in 2017. She was training and racing a lot during that time, and even qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials. Unfortunately, that race ended in a DNF, but that moment in her life became a turning point, which we talk about in detail during our conversation. Fast forward to 2024, where Roberta competed in the Olympic Trials in Orlando. She placed 24th with a time of 2:33. While the time goals were no longer in the picture, Roberta shared how the race felt like a return to herself—the love of running and the joy of racing without the pressure. We also talk about how she ran a smart race in Valencia with a one-minute negative split. After executing that strategy, you can’t help but wonder what might happen if she takes a few more risks in future races! Another highlight of Roberta’s career that we discuss is her amazing performance at the 2019 Marathon World Championships in Doha, where she placed sixth in brutal heat, becoming the top American finisher. She executed that race flawlessly, and it’s one of the moments that truly defines her career. We also touch on the coaching changes in her life and how she has made a significant career shift from nursing to focus full-time on coaching. On top of all of this, Roberta is a mom to three boys, with one still in high school, and we dive into some of the wisdom she’s gathered along the way. This conversation was so refreshing, and I felt like I got to know Roberta even better. I hope you do too. I think you’ll walk away from this episode with some great insights on how to enjoy life to the fullest, take risks, and be grateful. Enjoy the conversation with Roberta Groner! What we talked about: 3:00- Catching up with Roberta post race 18:30- All of the changes in her life in the past 5 years and going full time in coaching 26:30- Being coached by Steve Magness and reflecting on her 6th place finish at the world championships in the marathon 38:00- Roberta’s fueling strategy 40:45- Roberta’s race at Paris 44:00- Roberta’s partner, Sam 50:55- The financial side of running for Roberta 54:00- Breaking masters records 1:00:00- Enjoying every day 1:08:20- End of podcast questions Show notes: Roberta on Instagram Media recommendations: All the Broken Places Money Heist Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Fringe Heals Use the code “Hein25” for 25% off your order Previnex Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order…

On today’s coaching episode, I’m chatting with Will and Samantha Palmer, both coaches for the Florida Gators. Will serves as the Associate Head Coach for cross country and Assistant Coach for track and field, while Samantha is an Assistant Coach for cross country. Before coming to Florida, they were both at the University of Alabama, where they played a big role in leading the team to a third-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Will’s coaching career also includes stints at Georgetown, Western Kentucky, and Iowa, and Samantha was previously an assistant coach at the University of Toledo. Samantha is an accomplished runner herself, having qualified for the US Marathon Olympic Trials in both 2016 and 2020. She also qualified for the 10,000 meters at the 2020 Olympic Trials. I love the dynamic of having a husband and wife coaching duo—it’s not something you see very often—and we talk a little bit about that in this episode. They’re also expecting their second child, so we dive into how they balance family life with coaching. In our conversation, we dig into the culture they work hard to build within their teams, what they prioritize to create a successful environment for their athletes, and how they foster a sense of value for every single person, especially when you’ve got star athletes like Parker Valby on your roster. There’s so much valuable insight about coaching philosophies, team dynamics, and balancing career and family in this episode. I really enjoyed getting to know Will and Samantha, and I know you will too! I’m so excited to have my friend, Steph Bruce, back on the show! She’s been a recurring guest and one of my favorites to chat with, and this conversation is no exception. Steph just had an incredible race at the California International Marathon (CIM), where she placed third with a time of 2:28:41. To put that in perspective, this is just 14 months postpartum after having her third baby. What a year it’s been for Steph—and honestly, what a journey these past few years have been, with all of us watching and cheering her on as she continues to defy the odds. Looking back before CIM, this is a continuation of her remarkable comeback story. In February, at the Olympic Marathon Trials, Steph was only four months postpartum. Yet she still showed up and ran an impressive 2:47, proving that she wasn’t just recovering, but ready to return to racing at a high level. Fast forward to CIM, and she’s just one minute off her personal best of 2:27, which she ran in Chicago back in 2019. To say this was a great day for Steph would be an understatement—it was an incredible achievement and a testament to her hard work, resilience, and determination. In this episode, we also dive into some major changes happening in Steph’s professional life. Recently, Hoka NAZ Elite made the decision to let go of several athletes, including Steph. We talk about her perspective on this news, how she’s feeling, and what’s next for her moving forward. It was a candid and insightful conversation, and I’m so grateful to have had the chance to catch up with her. Honestly, I really enjoy these types of conversations, and it makes me wonder why I don’t do them more often. Talking to Steph is always a blast, and I hope you all enjoy listening as much as I did recording it! In this episode, I had the honor of talking with Lindi Marcusen, a first-time Paralympian who competed in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Lindi placed sixth in the 100 meter T63 and eighth in the long jump T63, but one of her major career highlights came earlier this year when she broke the American record in the 100 meter T63 at the US Paralympic team trials. Lindi grew up an athlete, competing in gymnastics and later bodybuilding in college, but her life took a dramatic turn in 2017 when she was in a horrific car accident that led to the loss of her right leg. This all happened shortly after her wedding as she was starting a new chapter! In this conversation, Lindi shares how she has overcome incredible adversity and built the strength to become the fastest above-knee amputee woman in the United States. This episode is filled with resilience, strength, and determination. Whether you’re an athlete or not, Lindi’s story will leave you feeling inspired by her perseverance and her commitment to not only reclaiming her life but excelling at the highest level in her sport. In today’s episode, we’re diving into the world of speed climbing with Olympian Piper Kelly. Piper is a 2024 Paris Olympian, a three-time Pan American champion, and she’s from Indianapolis—my hometown, which I obviously had to geek out about. Piper shares what it’s like to train for and compete in speed climbing, including the unique challenges of a sport where you race up the same route every single time. Yes, you heard that right. In speed climbing, the athletes tackle the exact same course over and over, and it’s all about speed—these races last only six or seven seconds. Wild, right? We also talk about Piper’s journey to the Olympics, her first Olympic experience, and how she’s gotten to where she is today. I learned a ton, and I think you will too. Since the interview, I’ve even been inspired to take my kids rock climbing. We’ve gone a few times before, but this time I took all of them, and they had a blast. One of the best parts of this series is that it’s reminding me to push my kids to try new and different sports—not just running, but exploring all kinds of movement and adventure. I also think you’ll appreciate hearing what it’s like to be a professional rock climber, especially in terms of sponsorships and the unique aspects of that lifestyle. And if you had a chance to catch any of the speed climbing events during the Olympics this summer, you’ll know how exciting it is to watch. It’s one of those sports that grabs your attention fast, and Piper does an amazing job explaining why. So, whether you’re already a fan of climbing or just curious about the sport, I think you’ll love this conversation. Don’t forget to follow Piper’s journey as she gears up for Paris 2024! What we talked about: 4:15- Her entry into the sport of speed climbing 6:10- The different disciplines of climbing 8:55- Why she chose the speed climbing discipline 12:05- Different styles of climbing 16:05- Running in high school 18:15- Making the Olympic team 24:15- Her family of elite athletes and how her parents instilled a passion for movement 35:20- Dealing with injuries in the sport 39:40- Growth in the sport 44:35- The financial aspect of the sport 48:50- Her role as a coach 50:20- End of podcast questions Show notes: @Piper.Climbs on Instagram Book recommendations: Dune Series Fast GIrls Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Donna Marathon Join me the weekend of January 31st-February 2nd, 2025 for the Donna Marathon weekend! 1 Episode 574: Emma Grace Hurley – 68:25 Half Marathon Debut in a Course Record at the Indy Monumental Marathon 51:08
I’m really excited to bring you today’s conversation with Emma Grace Hurley, who just had an incredible debut in the half marathon at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon. Emma Grace finished her debut race in a time of 68:26, which is a 5:14 per mile pace (WOW!). She also set the course record for the half marathon at Indy Monumental. She’s part of the Heartland Track Club, which, as a former Indy resident, I’m totally obsessed with—especially knowing how great the running scene is in Indianapolis. I can’t help but geek out about Indy in this episode, so please bear with me. It makes me so happy to see such an awesome team in the city, led by Andrew Begley and Amy Yoder Begley. Emma Grace has had a remarkable year. She’s practically run the entire USATF circuit across multiple distances and has had such great results at so many of them. Just a week before her half marathon debut, she placed third at the USATF 5K Championships in New York. She also placed third at the 10K championships and the 6K championships this year. On top of all that, she represented the United States for the first time at the World Cross Country Championships. Though we didn’t dive into that experience in this episode, I want to direct you to The Relay Podcast , where Mike Ko and I interviewed Emma Grace right after her World Cross race. That episode aired on April 5th, so be sure to check it out in the feed if you’re interested in hearing more about her international debut. What we talked about: 5:15- The decision to race the half marathon 8:30- Recapping her race 22:00- Her mentality during the race 25:00- The Heartland Track Club team 28:00- What’s next in training 44:15- End of podcast questions Show notes: Emma on Instagram Media recommendations: The Perfect Couple The Five Star Weekend The White Lotus Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order Previnex Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus…

My guest today is Katie Schide, one of the top ultra runners in the world. In 2024, she made history by winning both the Western States 100 and UTMB, securing a rare double and setting a new course record at UTMB by over 20 minutes. Her victory at Western States marked a major breakthrough after finishing second at the same race in 2023, and her second win at UTMB (she first won in 2022) further solidified her place among the elite in the sport. Her consistent high-level performances also include a sixth-place finish at UTMB in 2019. We dive into Katie’s training and life as a professional ultra runner. She lives in a remote part of France with her partner, where she enjoys the solitude and beauty of the mountains. Much of her training involves running, skiing, and biking, with a unique emphasis on ski mountaineering (or “ski-mo”), a form which serves as a demanding cross-training tool that she implements into her training during the winter months. It’s fascinating to hear how a top athlete integrates skiing into her routine, maintaining peak fitness during the off-season. Katie also holds a PhD in geology and shares how her academic background influences her approach to life and training. Beyond her impressive racing resume, which includes podium finishes at nearly every major ultra, she has set her sights on future challenges, including the iconic Hardrock 100. Sponsored by The North Face, Katie is an athlete you won’t want to miss following. You can connect with her on Instagram at @katieschide for more updates on her career and adventures in the mountains. What we talked about: 9:00- Living and training in a remote area 14:25- Including skiing in her training and what winter training looks like 24:30- The past two years of Western States performances 33:45- Winning UTMB and winning Western States in one year 39:50- Her coach and what she attributes her running successes to 52:05- The rise of women in the sport of trail and ultra running 53:00- Breaking the course record at UTMB 1:02:20- End of podcast questions Show notes: Katie on Instagram themarmots.run Bengal Spice Celestial Seasoning Tea A Court of Thorns and Roses series Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on Instagram Lindsey on Twitter Support our sponsors: Lagoon Use the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order 2Before Use the code “Lindsey” for 30% of 20 packs plus free shipping…

1 Episode 571: Jennifer Lozano – 9th Place at Her First Olympics in Boxing (Beyond Running Episode 3) 32:11
Welcome to another exciting episode in our series featuring athletes from various sports! Today, I’m thrilled to have Jennifer Lozano on the podcast. At just 21 years old, Jennifer made her Olympic debut for Team USA in boxing at the Paris Olympics, where she placed ninth. Growing up in the border town of Laredo, Texas, Jennifer started her boxing journey at the age of nine. She qualified for the Olympic Games by winning a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Santiago in 2023. Notably, she is the first person from Laredo, Texas, to ever qualify for the Olympics, marking a significant milestone for her community. In this episode, Jennifer shares her incredible journey in the sport—how she got to where she is today, what her training and lifestyle looked like leading up to the Olympics, and the immense effort and self-belief that fueled her success. She also opens up about the obstacles she faced along the way. I came into this conversation knowing very little about boxing and the pathways to the top, and I really enjoyed learning more about it from Jennifer. Jennifer has a deep commitment to giving back to her hometown, Laredo, Texas, and she shares her dreams for bringing opportunities to her community. 1 Episode 570: Kendall Chase – US Olympian and MIT Rowing Coach (Beyond Running Series Episode 2) 50:26
In today’s episode, I’m excited to be joined by Kendall Chase, a US Olympian in rowing and current assistant coach for MIT’s rowing team. We dive into Kendall’s journey from growing up in Colorado to representing the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in rowing, becoming an elite cyclist, and later transitioning into coaching. Kendall shares the ups and downs of her career, including a traumatic brain injury she experienced while cycling at the professional level and how she overcame it. We also talk about her coaching philosophy and what it’s like to work with athletes at MIT. As a fan of the book Boys in the Boat —which, if you’ve been listening for a while, you know I’ve referenced plenty—I couldn’t resist bringing in some of my rowing questions inspired by the book. If you’re at all interested in rowing or have ever wondered what goes into Olympic-level training, this conversation is full of insights. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
