Shrewsbury Comic Con Spooktacular Part 1 -

This is part one of my Shrewsbury Comic Con Spooktacular coverage. I gathered so much content that I had to split it into two parts!

In this episode, I chat with The Preston City Ghostbusters about their year, Craig David Dowsett on his role in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, George Coppen on acting as a little person, Mike Carey on the Constantine debate, and Sam Kwasman, the voice of Donald Duck.

Part two is out now, so check it out next! Special thanks to Nick for the invite!

Alex Whiteley Coming to you live from the Shropshire Business Suite's gorgeous podcast studio, nestled right in the heart of Shrewsbury, we’re bringing you a very special episode today. We’ve got a guest of the highest caliber – someone who’s recorded over 1000 interviews across countless productions. Yes, today’s guest has had conversations with people from all walks of life, from all over the globe. We're talking business owners, artists, celebrities, medical experts, musicians, politicians… basically, anyone with a story worth telling has been behind this guest's microphone. Have you figured it out yet? Drumroll, please... That’s right! Today’s guest is none other than – checks notes – the host of this very show, Alex Whiteley !! Expertly guided by Vicks and Sian Brennan-Todd, this episode gives you the inside scoop on how Alex first dipped his toes into the world of podcasting, where the inspiration for The Shrewsbury Biscuit came from, and what the podcasting community really means to him. Big thanks to Vicks and Sian for absolutely nailing it with this one. Enjoy! Intro music - What I Miss by Josh Lobley…

Shaun Owen - 12th Man Retro As part of her homework, Vick's had the task of setting up a couple of interviews and bringing her guests to the show without spilling too much about them to Alex. And today's guest is a fantastic one. Meet Shaun Owen, the proud proprietor of 12th Man Retro , a gem of a store nestled in The Parade Shopping Centre in Shrewsbury. If you’re a fan of football, especially vintage kits, this place is a must-visit. Shaun’s shop is the go-to spot for retro football shirts spanning all eras of the game. You might be wondering, "What's so special about a football shirt?" Well, in this episode, we dive deep into that question. It's not just fabric and logos – there's an undeniable wave of nostalgia that comes with seeing a legendary player’s name on the back of a shirt. Take, for example, one of Shaun's prized possessions – a Robbie Fowler Liverpool shirt. Not only was it one of his personal favourites, but it was also one of the first shirts he ever sold. And as Shaun explains, parting with it felt like losing a little piece of his soul. When someone’s passion for a hobby grows into a collection that spills onto the rails of a clothes store, you know there's an incredible story to be told. And in this episode, we’re all about sharing that story. Big shoutout to Vicks for putting together such a brilliant episode! Don't forget to visit 12th Man Retro and check out all the other amazing businesses at The Parade Shopping Centre. The Shrewsbury Biscuit has some great memories from our time there. Be sure to give the store a follow on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/the12thmanretro/ Intro music - What I Miss by Josh Lobley…

Welcome Vicks On today's episode we welcome our new co-host of The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast, Victoria Ireland! Vicks has been on the show before to talk about river safety but now she is about to buckle in and get stuck into everything Shrewsbury and Shropshire by becoming a very important part of the show. AL breaks out the classic "Gauntlet" game where he tests Vicks' abilities behind a mic. We also ask a very important question, "if you could invite anyone alive onto a podcast, which 4 people would you choose?" This question was answered by many of you on Facebook, by Vicks as well as me and my family. This was a great discussion. Welcome to the team Vicks, we already have a busy schedule lined up and we are ready to get stuck in with it.…

Sian Brennan-Todd Recorded in November, this episode was initially set for a December release, but life got in the way. Thankfully, the wait is worth it—our guest, Sian Brennan-Todd, is truly exceptional. Sian, a passionate presenter who travels to dance shows across the UK, embodies the spirit of dance. It was only fitting to interview her in the creatively charged Swan Hill Studios. This episode highlights Sian's inspiring journey—from returning to Shrewsbury after living in Australia, establishing herself as a professional presenter, and excelling as a cheerleading coach. Her philosophy extends beyond dance, emphasizing discipline and life lessons: "It's about how you are off the mat." Sian's dedication to mentorship is truly remarkable. Follow Sian’s journey on Instagram: @sianbrennantodd For Shrewsbury Cheerleading, Dance, and Gym: @shrewsburycheerdancegym Special thanks to Sian for her patience, and to Sam Pooley-Stride and The Circle for hosting us at Swan Hill Studios. Rod Plummer - Shoothill Today on The Biscuit , I’m thrilled to welcome Rod Plummer, Executive Chairman of Shoothill. We're chatting in the warm and inspiring surroundings of Swan Hill Studios—a perfect setting for a creative conversation. Shoothill began as a bold, creative gamble, and it’s paid off spectacularly. Their innovative software has reshaped how we see, learn, and think about the world around us. From reimagining Charles Darwin’s work and designing interactive movie posters with hidden surprises to developing the UK flood map that remains indispensable (especially in Shrewsbury!), Shoothill consistently pushes boundaries. Want to map and measure your garden easily? They’ve got you covered. Or how about displaying the world’s largest prime number—over 17 million digits—with their groundbreaking Deep Zoom Megafiche Technology? The creativity is endless. To truly appreciate the breadth of their work, you’ve got to check out their website: https://shoothill.com . Rod shared incredible stories and insights, making this episode a real treat. On November 16th at Soulton Hall, I met Jacob Chandler at his As You Like It Dancers Expo. Jacob, an exceptional sculptor, was commissioned to bring Shakespeare's As You Like It to life through his art. Tim Ashton, custodian of Soulton Hall, explained the building's historical significance and its connection to Shakespeare, highlighting Shropshire's rich but underappreciated cultural heritage—an ideal backdrop for Jacob's work. Jacob's sculptures, inspired by dance and motion, are meticulously crafted to appear delicately balanced, reflecting both technical precision and the raw vulnerability of his personal journey. To fully appreciate Jacob's artistry, visit his website: jacobchandler.co.uk . Some of his pieces may already be familiar to locals! Theme music: "What I Miss" by Josh Lobley…

DRAWN Festive Makers Market 2024 For the final episode of Season Charlie, we take a stroll through the DRAWN Festive Makers Market 2024—a place that holds a special spot in my heart. It was wonderful reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. Naturally, I posed the big question to the artists: "If you were a biscuit, which would you be?"—riveting stuff, only on The Shrewsbury Biscuit . I caught up with friends like Gary Drew, Mollie V, Saffron Russel, Matt Sewell, and Sam Pooley-Stride, while also meeting new faces to me like Lorna Bennet, Lucy Caddel, Kelly from Team Sikel, and Caris Jackson. A highlight was chatting with Cherie Jerrard, the curator and visionary behind DRAWN. Her dedication has provided a much-needed platform for artists to showcase their talents, especially after a challenging few years. Hats off to you, Cherie, for making DRAWN a resounding success. This wraps up Season Charlie! We’ll return in two weeks with our classic weekly schedule—lots to look forward to. See you soon! Intro Music - What I Miss by Josh Lobley…

Julia Buckley - Shrewsbury's MP This episode has been a long time coming. While I don't usually dive into politics on the Biscuit, I believe every person has a story worth telling. I was honored to sit down with Shrewsbury's MP, Julia Buckley, to share hers. We explore how Julia got into politics, her motivations, and the experience of running and winning an election. She also reflects on the impact of losing her friend, MP Jo Cox, whose positive influence continues to guide her. Julia opens up about the challenges of representing an entire town, sharing insights on the groundwork she and her team put in before the election. This relaxed episode offers a closer look at Julia Buckley as a person, with real emotions and relatable struggles. Thanks to Julia for her time, to Phil Gillam for organizing, and to GinDifferent for hosting us in Shrewsbury Market Hall. Theme music - What I Miss by Josh Lobley…

Cat Merrick - This Vibrant Life Catching up with my good friend, Cat Merrick, over a mocha at The Shrewsbury Coffee House—one of my favorite town spots—is always a pleasure. Cat, a vibrant life coach focused on dance, movement, and yoga, made a lasting impact on me since her first appearance on my show in 2020. Back then, she inspired me to explore calm, breathing, and meditation. Today, four years on, we’ve both grown. Cat has expanded her work from "Breath, Dance & Yoga" to "This Vibrant Life," where she now helps women leaders become more present and focused on self-development. Want to learn more? Claire Martinez - Colours of Shrewsbury Sometimes, we unknowingly prepare ourselves for something extraordinary later in life. Today's guest, Claire Martinez from Colours of Shrewsbury, is a perfect example. We first met when she helped transform my interview with Alex from Osteria v2.0 into a true spectacle. Since then, I've watched Colours of Shrewsbury soar. Whether it’s a beautiful window display, painted signage, pub signs, or managing social media content, Claire handles it all. Colours of Shrewsbury reflects Claire’s diverse experiences—from working abroad and for a prestigious car brand to designing cabinets for her husband’s business. Follow Claire on Instagram and check out her work: https://www.instagram.com/coloursofshrewsbury/ . If you see her around Shrewsbury, be sure to say hi! Theme song - What I Miss by Josh Lobley…

Shrewsbury Comic Con Spooktacular Part 2 Here’s part two of my Shrewsbury Comic Con Spooktacular coverage. As 'The Voice of Shrewsbury,' I sometimes need to embrace my chatterbox side, hence this two-part episode on the amazing event. In this episode, you'll hear interviews with Willie Coppen about his time as an Ewok in Star Wars: ROJ, legendary voice actor Matt Hill (Ed, Edd n Eddy, among 160+ IMDB credits), local author Kevin Horak, actress Amber Doig-Thorne on strong women in movies, and a catch-up with Mike Perkins after completing The Batman: First Knight . I wrap up with a chat with the event organizer, Nick, to see how things went. Special thanks to everyone who spoke to me, and apologies to the gentleman dressed as a Nazgûl—my mixer wasn’t properly set up during our conversation! Theme music: What I Miss by Josh Lobley…
