Welcome to another episode of KEEP IT WEIRD, the podcast for all things strange and unusual, hairy and scary, mysterious and unknown and everything in between!! This thing might be a bigfoot, a government experiment gone horribly awry, an interdimensional creature that crawled through a hole in space-time or possibly the devil himself. Ashley brings us two stories in a new segment she calls MONKEY'N AROUND! First up is our new favorite Orangutan, KEN ALLEN. Known as the "Hairy Houdini" at the San Diego zoo, Ken became famous for outwitting his zoo handlers and escaping his "inescapable" enclosure several times. Then we head into the modern day and discuss China splicing human DNA into chimpanzees. The goal is to attempt to find the gene that gave us consciousness... but could it result in Planet of the Apes? And finally Lauren gives us a BIT O' BIOLOGY with a 2009 study in Scientific American regarding music and how not only does it move us emotionally and affect our "heart" but it also might affect our HEART!! That's right, it's possible that Music may help keep your cardiovascular system regulated and we may be able to use music in the future to help treat victims of heart attacks and strokes to re-regulate their circulatory systems.
