Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 52 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Wednesday morning 29 May 2024.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.
In Rugby: Tongan Thor Taniela Tupou has been found guilty by the Super Rugby Pacific Foul Play Review Committee, after they reviewed his citing by the TMO for dangerous play in a ruck or maul.
Tupou has been issued with a warning for his actions, but is free to play for the Rebels against the Fijain Drua this weekend as the Committee found that his foul play incident in the 65th minute of the match between Brumbies and Rebels in Canberra last weekend, came very close to, but in their opinion, did not meet the red card threshold.
The Rebels in 7 may climb to sixth if they beat the Fijian Drua and the Highlanders lose to the Hurricanes.
The Fijian Drua, on the other hand, will climb into seventh spot if they beat the Rebels with a bonus point.
In the NBA: The Boston Celtics clinched the Eastern Conference championship on Monday with a 105-102 win over the Indiana Pacers, sweeping the series 4-0 and booking a spot in the NBA Finals.
The Celtics will face the winner of the Western Conference finals, where the Dallas Mavericks hold a 3-0 over the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of today’s game four.
In boxing: Mike Tyson insisted yesterday he felt "100%" despite a recent health scare as he prepares for his July bout against Youtuber Jake Paul.
The 57-year-old former world heavyweight boxing champion needed medical treatment on Sunday after complaining of nausea and dizziness during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.
Paramedics boarded the American Airlines plane at Los Angeles International Airport to treat the boxing legend before he exited the flight.
Tyson is preparing to make a controversial return to the ring against Jake Paul in Texas on 20 July, which has raised fears that the fighter once known as the "baddest man on the planet" could be hurt due to his advanced years.
Tyson however insisted on Tuesday he felt fine despite Sunday's scare: "Now feeling 100% even though I don’t need to be to beat Jake Paul," Tyson wrote in a brief post on X.
In rugby league: The West Tigers have a bye this week, but haven’t picked up a win since they pipped the Parramatta Eels on Easter Monday in Round 4.
It’s one of just two wins this season under Benji Marshall, who has come under fire for leaving Australia amid the Club’s horror run of form.
Marshall has taken a break with his family in Fiji.
Fiji – can you blame him? It’s bloody freezing in Sydney and a few bowls of kava will probably do the under-pressure Coach some good - “Bula Benji!”
On the other hand, some Fijian Drua fans suspect that Marshall is here on a spying mission to size up Flying Fijian wing Ravutaumada for a potential big money switch to the Tigers!
And that’s a wrap!
