July 10, 1981, Skidmore, MO - It is estimated that approximately forty people were surrounding the truck of Ken McElroy when he was shot and killed in broad daylight. Local, state, and federal law enforcement investigated and yet no one saw anything. What drove the town to this breaking point? Ken McElroy was known as the town’s bully and had been charged with multiple crimes throughout the years but intimidated witnesses or flexed his might in out nefarious ways. When he was shot, he was set to stand trial again, this time for shooting a 70 year old store clerk. The town had concerns he would be acquitted in this shooting like he was in a previous shooting a few years prior. In this week’s episode, Tom & Ben examine the case of Ken McElroy and the town that thought “he needed killing”.
