Sammy Basso è un ragazzo di venti anni che combatte ogni giorno contro la progeria, una malattia molto rara che provoca un precoce invecchiamento. Grazie alle nuove ricerche, e grazie all’impegno dei genitori Laura e Amerigo (che hanno fondato l’associazione Italiana Progeria Sammy Basso per far conoscere la malattia e raccogliere fondi per trovare finalmente una cura), Sammy è stato sottoposto a trattamenti sperimentali per rallentare la malattia. Nel 2014, dopo il diploma di maturità, ha percorso la Route 66. Il viaggio è diventato un reportage su National Geographic. Attualmente è amministratore del Network Italiano delle Laminopatie.
