In this episode Studio Steve will talk the shop and share some lingo with you that will help you hire and work with a podcast editor.
Working with a podcast editor is one of the first bits of work that we encourage podcasters to outsource.

  1. Check your recording quality
  2. Pick a service
    1. Fiverr
    2. Upwork
    3. Google “Podcast Editing”
    4. WeEditPodcasts
    5. PodLab
  3. Ask for a portfolio or examples of their work
  4. Schedule a VIDEO call.
    1. Do you vibe with them?
    2. Negotiate a rate.
      1. Hourly / Episode by Episode
  5. Know the LINGO and talk some SHOP.
    1. What DAW do you use?
      1. Audacity RED FLAG
      2. Garageband RED FLAG
    2. What noise reduction solution do you use?
    3. What compressor do you use?
    4. Do you like to use a DE-ESSER?
    5. Do you use a lot of EQ?
    6. What mastering or Limiting plugins do you use?
    7. Do you remove filler words?
  6. Test the waters
    1. Have some episodes ready
    2. Be slow to hire, quick to fire
    3. Make sure they deliver a high-quality sound
    4. Make sure they make their deadline
    5. Consider trying out 2 or 3 editors at the same time.
