Manage episode 444129472 series 3450735
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the HAUNTING indie horror film you CANNOT miss, ODDITY, and the incredible divisive film from American cinema godfather Francis Ford Coppola- Megalopolis! We journey through and discuss these three movies in depth and detail, and then battle it out in the court of public opinion on Megalopolis! And I mean battle, so come join us cinephiles and find out how awesome (or not) these three movies are, and listen in on the cinephile battle of the century- is 'Megalopolis' FFC's Mangum Opus, or a convoluted mess?! Come find out.
Let's start of this spooky season with the return of Tim Burton and our favorite demon in 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!' Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, Monica Bellucci, and Winona Ryder passing the horror girl deviant outsider baton to Jenna Ortega all come together in this legacy sequel to the infamous Beetlejuice of 1988! Does it work to recapture the amazing charm of the Hollywood outsider that is Tim Burton, or does the charm fall short and one too many stories are attempted to be woven to revitalize our favorite demon in hopes to offer him to the next generation?
Horror fans!! This one is for you. Damian Mc Carthy's Oddity! Let me start by saying, go to Shudder right now (can find it on Amazon Prime subsection) and watch 'Oddity' and then come back and join in on our incredible journey through one of the highest caliber horror films of the past DECADE! Ya, I said it! Oddity oozes Irish folktale horror goodness, showing once again they have drinking and storytelling down to a science! Carolyn Bracken, Johnny French, and Steve Wall + the isolated Irish mansion all help to bring this dreadful story of a wooden man, a witch, a shop of haunted mysteries, and deception to live in a truly masterful genre film, an absolute stone cold horror classic in the making that we will have on rotation every Halloween from this point out! Come listen as to what makes this film so special!
Last but certainly not least, American cinematic royalty Francis Ford Coppola just brought the world his passion project over 40 years in the making in the illustrious 'Megalopolis.' Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne and so, so many more stars come together to make this modern Roman epic a truly unforgettable piece of art- or do they!? My cohost and I literally BATTLE it out on our discussion of Megalopolis, from my defense of the performances as being Shakespearean operatic beats that his simple mind just refuses to grasp, to his overture that I am giving Coppola's self-financed last musings of a decaying genius, a madman at the end of his time way more credit that it deserves.
Come listen to our dissents, a true battling it out of film bros on the titan's potential last hoorah of a passion project. Megalopolis is a lot of things, and one of those things is it occupies a place in film history that demands your viewing. Please do so and join us in our heated discussion of this play of caricatures in leu of characters, the bizarre in leu of reality, and try to find the crazy register that I believe Coppola intended- ride the ride that is MEGALOPOLIS and please leave us a 5-star review letting us know YOUR thoughts on this cinematic giant!
MOVIES ARE BACK! But we argue they've never gone anywhere. If you feel the same way we do about CINEMA, please like and subscribe and come on this crazy journey through film with us! Plus, it's spooky season.. HORROR INCOMING!
And remember, we watch way more movies than you. See you at the movies!
