Ever wondered why you feel energized throughout the day, only to feel sleepy at night? The answer lies within your circadian rhythm, an internal clock that regulates your sleep-wake cycle. This week on Aging Less: The Longevity Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella is joined by circadian physiologist Dr. Jamie Zeitzer to learn more about the enormous impact of light on our circadian rhythm, and what it does to our health.

Specializing in how light impacts circadian rhythms, Dr. Jamie Zeitzer is the co-director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Sciences at Stanford University, where he is also an associate research professor of psychiatry and sleep medicine. Having published numerous studies on sleep, insomnia, circadian science, Dr. Jamie Zeitzer discovered a pioneering treatment for jet lag, and had contributed to publications by the likes of The New York Times and The Washington Post.

In this episode, Dr. Jamie Zeitzer reveals that studies have shown that the more stable your internal clock is, the less likely you are to get cancer or diabetes. He elaborates that, with this in mind, night shift workers tend to have a poorly functioning circadian rhythm, leading to a higher risk of health issues across the board.

Together, Marie and Dr. Jamie Zeitzer discuss useful habits and practices for regulating the circadian rhythm, such as getting as much light as possible during the day. So, tune in this week to learn the secrets behind developing a sharper mind, for a longer, healthier life!
