In 1966, two Brazilian men were found dead on Vintém Hill under bizarre circumstances that continue to perplex investigators and conspiracy theorists alike. Lying side by side, their bodies were discovered wearing matching lead masks—shields with no eyeholes—alongside cryptic notes. Were they victims of a cult ritual, a failed experiment, or something even more otherworldly? Women in WW2 at home in Britain had their lives turned upside down. Anna Parker-Naples shares her research and creative writing process as she creates her first novel based on events that happened in her home town Leighton Buzzard, Q-Central and nearby Bletchley Park. From the factory girls at Gossards who made the parachutes for Spitfires, to the Land Girls who fell in love with POW's and the WAAF's and WRN's billeted in the town alongside thousands of East End evacuees, Anna's intention is to share the bits that inspire her work, but may not get included in the final manuscript. As a writer on the prestigious Faber Academy writers course, Anna will share the journey from idea, to first draft, revisions, the search for an agent and traditional book publishing deal, and beyond. With interviews with fellow writers and established authors, and with historians who specialise in the Second World War. If you would like to follow this journey, go to www.annapn.co/ww2

×One of the good things about my experience at the Faber academy is that we get to turn in submissions from our drafts for agents and publishers to look at. It really pushes me to challenge myself, and see just how much my writing career is progressing. In today’s episode, I’ll be taking you through the various submissions I have to make, and I’ll be talking about the pressures I feel as the deadlines approach. What You Will Learn in This Episode: The pressure that comes with finishing up my synopsis and how I handle it The most challenging part of meeting my first submission deadline at Faber Academy My plans for how to successfully get selected to read on stage at the upcoming New York Festival As much as I’m feeling the pressure of meeting these deadlines, I’m eager to demonstrate how far I’ve come in my learning process through these submissions. I’m willing to put my work out there, because I trust in my writing and I believe my work is good enough. Making a decision to achieve your biggest goal in life can only become a reality when you back it up with the right action. This is why I’ve decided to follow up my writing journey with commitment and a strategy. Join me in today’s episode as I fill you in on what my writing journey has been like so far, and also talk about the determined steps I’ll be taking to finish my novel on time. What You Will Learn in This Episode: My strategy on how I intend to fulfil my desire to write every day The pressure that came with applying to publishing agents and how I overcame it My writing perspective at the start of my book vs right now When I started to make my draft zero, I was determined to write every day but a lot of things have hindered me from doing this. I’ve realised just how taxing it can be to take on a lot of things at once. This is why I’ll advise writers to make a plan that has carefully considered all your activities in a day, so you don’t get overwhelmed and discouraged on your path to creating a masterpiece. The path to your first novel is never a smooth one. There are times when you’ll experience the words flow, and other times you’ll run into the writer's block. What You Will Learn in This Episode: - How I’ve been dealing with imposter syndrome as I write my novel - The consequences of not writing on a committed basis - The root cause of writer’s block and how to get past it There’s no such thing as a perfect writer, you just have to be committed to writing consistently, and put aside the feeling that you’re not good enough. You also need to push past your fears, set realistic deadlines and surround yourself with people that can inspire you on your writing journey.
