Mateus Manhanini on Absolute Superman 2 is on fire and both JonBoy Meyers and Bjorn Barends draw covers I’d love to have. Titles DC's Batman Smells, Robin Laid an Egg #1 - John Stewart, The Secret Six, John Constantine, The Joker, Deadman, Dr. Mid-Nite, Vixen, and Superman get their own little crazy Holiday stories from DC’s annual anthology book. And it’s not bad. Typical seasonal anthology, if you can get past the cover. 7/10 DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #3 – This is dark, gritty, written well and a fun read. I hope that it continues because so far, we’ve got a really good main universe Horror book here, and I’d like to keep it that way. 8.25/10 Batman / Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #2 – It’s amazing art, stellar, which a big cast of popular characters and a story that, so far, looks to out do our last go round with the Silent Knight. I’m all in for this series. Good time. 8/10 DC Horror Presents... #2 – Two twisted tales for The Penguin and Scarface. The Penguin one wasn’t bad., The Scarface one was really good, if not a little messed up. Good stuff. 7.75/10 Little Batman Month One #2 – This continues to be a fun story for everyone, and suitable for the younger crowds. Here’s the run down – Variants McFarlane Toys again for variant covers on Batman / Superman: World's Finest #33, Action comics #1076, Titans #17. Lots of pretty good variants this week, but my favorite is undoubtedly Catwoman #70 by Frank Cho, followed very closely by the Watchtower Variants from Jorge Fornes, Lucio Parrillo, and Danny Earls. Issues Batman & Robin Year One #2 – Really good. 100% Samnee art. The dialog is great and it’s a really good story. 8.25/10 Batman Full Moon #2 – Fantastic. Utterly fantastic. If anyone is telling you otherwise, well, the just aren’t right. The art and story and dialog are all spot on in this book. 8.5/10 Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #5 – Okay 5 issues in and I can officially say this without doubt. So far, Allwinter outshines the original story, and that original story was awesome… and… the art scheme. It sells it so much. Every sliver of the story is also being told in the art and the colors and if you aren’t reading it, I mean this, you are truly missing out. .. 8.5/10 Jenny Sparks #4 – I really don’t know what I was expecting with this. At all. But it wasn’t this. I didn’t expect to like this. Here I am hating it. The art is really, really, really good. But that’s NOT Jenny Sparks OR Captain Atom. Again, it’s the art – 6.5/10 Wonder Woman #15 – Same as Jenny Sparks, but lower because this is canon, not Elseworlds. Great art. Awesome art. Really crappy story. 6/10 Milestone Universe-The Shadow Cabinet #1 – So much in this issue! It really kicked this 4-issue mini off. There’s a lot to the issue, and it’s a good thing it has extra pages. I’m really looking forward to the next issue so we can find out more about what’s going on, and what will happen with the Blood Syndicate and where are the rest of the team? I dig it. 8/10 DC vs. Vampires: World War V #4 - 4 issues in and this could easily be the best of the series, and they’ve been pretty good. And Ra’s Al Ghul gets a tongue lashing from Damian that just tears him to shreds. Oh, and have I mentioned yet that Alfred Pennyworth is a Green Lantern? 8/10 Batman: Uncovered #1 – Like the rest of the series, this is full of gorgeous artwork, and it even includes that MS Paint cover from Tom King in it. Sweet Baby Assassins, that’s beautiful. Issues Plastic Man No More! #3 – Patrick O’Brien’s life sucks, but I’m having a damn good time reading it. 8.5/10 DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #2 – It’s flat out cool. Getting to know the commandos, and how they’re going to work together. 8.5/10 Little Batman: Month One #1 – Batman keeps his beard. Damian asks Bruce who taught him most of his martial arts and he answers “Your Graaaa actually let’s talk about that some other time. If you enjoy the silliness of the movie Merry Little Batman, you’ll enjoy this book. I sure did. 8/10 My Adventures with Superman #6 – This is a really really great ending to this emotional Amazo story. I really mean it when I say give this series a read. 8.5/10 Batman & Scooby Doo Mysteries #11 – Book reviews by Dash - I loved this issue. There are literally NO problems. Lots of action scenes, story, everything you want. What I got was some interesting art very appropriate for the book, and a story that is brand new, a little weird, and pretty dang good. 8.5/10 John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #10 – This entire issue is Holy $#% . 9/10 Batman: The Brave and the Bold #18 – So much in this issue! Batman doubts his worthiness; Miss Martian, Jackson Hyde, and the Power of Friendship!; Harley (of course); An evil Elvis wannabe; All the Robins (plus more Robins); and Resurrection Pet Edition – This was really good. 8/10 Zatanna: Bring Down The House #5 – You are really all missing out by not reading this book. Story... Art... It's magically delicious. Really. Here’s the run down – MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 – “Rated by Dash” – 4/5. This issue is just crazy but it is good and I love the pictures. Jenny Sparks #3 – 4/10 – Evil Captain Atom kills the enti8re Justice League team. But also didn’t. Or maybe he did? And Jenny smokes. Such. Great. Writing. All points given for the art. Batman: Full Moon #1 – 7.5/10 – An interesting story. Batman’s no stranger to horror stories, but this one feels written a little different. I enjoy it, and Subic’s art. However, Subic… stop signing interior pages. You look incredibly full of yourself when you do that. It’s in the credits. That’s the only place it needs to be. Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #4 – 8/10 – I really hope that DKOS continues after this, like a White Knight kind of universe. Please. So fun to read, such great stories. Such good art. Batman and Robin: Year One #1 – 8.25/10 – This is a great year one story without it being an origin story. It’s not campy or with cheesy dialog. I’s written well; the art works awesome. It’s a great time. The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley – 9/10 – This was awesome. Really. Like an origin story for the development of the Harley Quinn side of Harleen Quinzel. And Poison Ivy. It was done really well and the art works great for it too. It’s not a kid’s book, unless kids should read the F bomb, which does show up once along with some other profanity later in the book. So… if this was a movie, it would be rated PG 13. This Is Our Land – A Blue Beetle Story – 9.5/10 – A VERY rare 9.5 from me because of how absolutely amazing this book is. There’s really not another way to describe it. It’s relevant, has real meaning, is impactful and it gives a cool bit of an origin story. And it’s written so damn well that I couldn’t peel my eyes off of it, and may even go back and read it again. Unbelievably good. I couldn’t recommend it more. Harley Quinn in Paradise #1 – 7.75/10 - It’s a silly webcomic about Harley shortly after breaking up with the Joker. She’s pissed off a lot of criminals and Poison Ivy warns her to hide… so her idea to make everyone love her while staying safe is … get cast on a reality show looking for true love. Ooohhhh boy. This should be something. The art is good, and I like Harley’s new look at the end of the issue. Nothing Butt Nightwing #1 – 7/10 – A webcomic about Nightwing going undercover as a model while dealing with… being dumped by Babs. For a webcomic, this was actually not too bad. I’ve seen far worse. It was enjoyable for what it was… but… if an issue is centered around Dick Grayson’s butt, only Nicola Scott should be asked to draw it. Here’s the run down – MultiVersus: Collision Detected #2 – 8/10 – This is too entertaining and funny. It shouldn’t be this good for what it is. But I can tell you that I’ve played the game and this comic book is waaay better than the game. DC's I Know What You Did Last Crisis #1 –7.5/10 - This was okay. Some were better than others. Some art was amazing, some just good. Altogether, better than I was hoping for. The Dr Light Story and Midnighter were both really good. DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #1 – 8/10 – A kick the door in style of introduction to the Creature Commandos and it has me curious what the rest will look like. Good stuff so far for an intro issue. Plastic Man No More! #2 – 9/10 - This story is something else man. The art aims to be of the lighthearted variety, not super modern. Mopre classic, more cartoony. But I have a feeling that if it didn’t have that, it might be hard for some people to get through. This is an intense book. So far, by far, the best Plastic Man story ever told. This is heartbreaking. The Nice House by the Sea #3 – 8.5/10 – Man… oh man. Al l can tell you is how good this is because if you aren’t reading it you wouldn’t understand but seriously, if you like horror and myustery… grab up the first series, nice house by the lake, and then move on to this one, nice house by trhe sea. Every issue leaves you hungry for more. Every single one. My Adventures with Superman #5 – 8/10 – I can’t believe how good a cartoon tie-in book can be on the regular. The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #10 – 4/5 graded by Dash. He liked that it was spooky Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? #130 – 3/5 graded by Dash.
