NAACP Image Award-nominated true crime podcast investigates a string of mysterious tragedies among Ferguson activists in St. Louis in the years since the police shooting of Mike Brown Jr. motivated them to launch what became a national movement for Black Lives.

SEASON 2 (2024): Darren Seals, 29-year-old rapper and famed activist, is found shot dead inside his burning Jeep in the early morning hours after Labor Day 2016. Six years later, the former Missouri state senator who was in the Ferguson movement with him, Maria Chappelle-Nadal, joins co-host Ray Nowosielski and our investigative team for a two-plus years investigation and all of its twists and turns. Darren was hailed by many as the successor to Malcolm X, and the attention he garnered found him the alleged target of law enforcement harassment, and maybe worse. We cross a landscape of rap artists, protestors, gang members, cops, FBI agents and even a serial killer, from the violent streets of St. Louis to the elite headquarters of JayZ’s Roc Nation in New York City, from government offices to prison cells, picking up the trail left by Darren's murderer -- with an ending you have to hear to believe.

Season 1 (2021): When 24-year-old Danyé Jones is found hanging from a tree in St. Louis County in October 2018, police declare it a suicide. But his Ferguson frontline activist mother Melissa McKinnies grabs headlines with her viral post alleging her son in fact died by lynching. Who is right? Starting only six weeks after Danyé's death, journalists John Duffy and Ray Nowosielski spend two and a half years working with his mother, family members, close friends and many in the activist community to follow the trail and find out what exactly happened to him. The take-away: almost seven years after the movement for Black Lives was launched from this place, something is still terribly wrong in North County.
