[Full Interview] Israel faces enormous challenges. Israeli society is undergoing a major change, from a society made up of a clear Zionist secular majority, to one made up of four clear population sectors or “tribes” which are growing ever closer in size: the secular Jews, the national religious Jews, the Haredim and the Arabs. The fifth tribe is the Israeli diaspora. Perla Aizencang-Kane was born in Argentina and became an Israeli citizen in 1990. As a transnational migrant, she has been living in Mexico since 2008. Her main lines of research focus on migration, transnational living, diaspora formation, and identity dynamics in migratory processes. She teaches at the Hebraica University in Mexico City and is also a research fellow at the Institute for Immigration and Social Integration at the Ruppin Academic Center in Israel. Eitan Drori OAM initiated and established together with Israeli community leaders worldwide, the Global Israeli Leadership (GIL), the roof body for the Israeli communities outside the US and he is its chairman. The GIL's main task is to develop and maintain a strong affiliation between the Israeli Diaspora and the State of Israel, in the areas of identity, Hebrew culture, Jewish education, business networking and advocacy. Lt. Col (Ret) Jonathan Conricus is a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies focused on the Middle East. He served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for 24 years as a combat commander in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. In June of 1982, Israel Prize laureate and much-loved songwriter Ehud Manor was sitting with his wife Ofra in the living room, watching the news on television. The news item was about the First Lebanon War between Israel and the PLO attacking Israel from Lebanon. Ofra recalled this event vividly: “We saw footage of Israeli soldiers entering Beirut. Ehud broke down. I’m telling you, he was weeping. He said: ‘I cannot take it’ — and then he began jotting down words on a piece of paper.” Those words went on to become the song, “ Ein Li Eretz Acheret ” (Hebrew for “I Have No Other Country”) — one of Israel’s favourite songs, and its title morphed into a popular catchphrase throughout Israel. Now the 97th Academy Awards (The Oscars) gave its Best Documentary award to a film that plagiarized “ Ein Li Eretz Acheret ” and deviously spun it to demonize Israel. Local musician and psychologist Ron Hutter believes that a psychological warfare approach to the Palestinian Arabs is badly lacking. He is joined by two others Dr Anjuli Pandavar and Dr Ron Schleifer. Dr Anjuli Pandavar is a retired former staff member of Masaryk University, Brno in Czechia, where she retains academic links, as well as to Charles University in Prague. She is a British writer and social critic who was born into a Muslim family in apartheid South Africa, where she left Islam in 1979. Dr Ron Schleifer is senior lecturer in the School of Communication at Ariel University, specialising in pyschological warfare and and head of the Ariel Center for Defence and Communication.
