Carol Costello Presents: The God Hook

In this premiere episode of "The God Hook," host Carol Costello introduces the chilling story of Richard Beasley, infamously known as the Ohio Craigslist Killer. In previously unreleased jailhouse recordings, Beasley portrays himself as a devout Christian, concealing his manipulative and predatory behavior. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Beasley's deceitfulness extends beyond the victims he buried in shallow graves. Listen to the preview of a bonus conversation between Carol and Emily available after the episode. Additional info at carolcostellopresents.com . Do you have questions about this series? Welcome to Bone Throwers Theater! We are a RPG actual play podcast. We play both long-term campaigns and one-shot sessions. Our current main campaign is called Wayfinders, using the OpenD6 Space System from West End Games. The world was built using the games, Microscope and Reliquary. The characters are crew members of a Wayfinders ship, whose mission is to keep the peace and provide aid to a galaxy re-establishing cultural connectivity after a galactic war spawned a “dark age”. ×Who says Bone Throwers Theater can't be light-hearted and zany once in a while? Ok, we still let some of our dark humor "shine" through a bit on this one, but this system, setting, and story is ripe for the absurd and ridiculous hijinks, engineered and orchestrated by raccoons! We definitely laughed til our sides hurt on this one. System: Raccoon Sky Pirates by Hectic Electron CAST: Aaron — Vibrissa Jeremy — Torch Key Johnny — Kit Jordan — The Junkyard Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…

Bone Throwers Theater

This new world and new set of character gave us a lot to talk about for this first commentary of the campaign. We explain why we didn't start with a full cast. However, we found out it was a great way to start because it created tension from the start, even though we all chose to play characters that were significant departures from characters in the previous campaign. System: OpenD6 Space, from West End Games Character Advancement: Jeff (Kumu) Best Roleplay: Johnny (Trum Likey Flu) Who Brought the best Snack: Jeff (Rosemary Chicken Cheesecake) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Vireo Ellie — Kolohe Jeff — Kumu Jeremy — Solgrin of Ash Johnny — Trum Likey Flu Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios and other sources…
For this final battle with the story's B.B.E.G, we pull out out the stops. Quick Actions, Feature Actions, High Watch are all employed against enemies seen and unseen. As the story concludes we get a hint as to why this group may not have the best of reputations. We also give some brief commentary as we wrap up on the system and what has gone into creating the setting, lore, and gameplay mechanics of this upcoming game. We really enjoyed it, and hope you all did too. You'll probably hear another run of this game in the future! System: Grimworld (in development) by Sand & Glass Entertainment CAST: Aaron — Jamison “Jim” Jeff — Nathaniel “Nickel” Jeremy — Justice Ciro “Juice” Johnny — Franklin “?” Jordan — Arlo “Squint” Mike — The Grim Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…

The crew's investigation into Vireo's disappearance leads them to an "upscale" boutique shop, with a suspicious curator. At this point, the group isn't going to leave any suspicion unchallenged, so things are bound to get uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. We'll see if these characters can hold their own in the campaign's first instance of combat. System: OpenD6 Space, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Vireo Ellie — Kolohe Jeff — Kumu Jeremy — Solgrin of Ash Johnny — Trum Likey Flu Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios and other sources…
Victorious in combat, mystery solved; now it's time to rest and recover by a cozy campfire... right? Nope... that's never how it goes. In fact, things are a lot more "grim" (hehe) than our characters realize. The true threat is revealed in this episode, and it might be a lot more than our "heroes" want to take on. I mean, the words "run, hide, fight... in that order" were used, but let's see if that's the way things shake out. System: Grimworld (in development) by Sand & Glass Entertainment CAST: Aaron — Jamison “Jim” Jeff — Nathaniel “Nickel” Jeremy — Justice Ciro “Juice” Johnny — Franklin “?” Jordan — Arlo “Squint” Mike — The Grim Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Daniel Birch, and other sources…

On the resort planet of Signa 9, the party checks out a popular vacation spot of their crew-mate. But it appears that this trip was not a relaxing one for Vireo. Clues point to an altercation with a group that has a bit of an infamous reputation in the galaxy.
Combat, this episode is all about combat! We get full-on into the mechanics of the system, and occasionally break to discuss the differences in the types of damage dealt, ammunition and armor, and the flexibility and creativity the system offers in a player's choice of weapons and attacks. System: Grimworld (in development) by Sand & Glass Entertainment CAST: Aaron — Jamison “Jim” Jeff — Nathaniel “Nickel” Jeremy — Justice Ciro “Juice” Johnny — Franklin “?” Jordan — Arlo “Squint” Mike — The Grim Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
We are finally here with the inaugural adventure for our new campaign. A life or death situation threatens an outlying space colony, then a life or death situation threatens one of our crew members. The characters turn to each other encouragement and a bit of tough love to help them face the challenges in front of them.
The party sets out from haven of Shadevale to start their quest, albeit reluctantly for some members. The tension quickly skyrockets as things get "weird beyond weird". Aside from the story, we do get some pretty good glimpses into the mechanics of the system to include "try your odds", "stress", and "morale." System: Grimworld (in development) by Sand & Glass Entertainment CAST: Aaron — Jamison “Jim” Jeff — Nathaniel “Nickel” Jeremy — Justice Ciro “Juice” Johnny — Franklin “?” Jordan — Arlo “Squint” Mike — The Grim Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
Since we are actually going to spend quite some time with these characters in a long-term campaign, we used the "soft tilt" to be sure that they were not utterly destroyed after another round of play of Fiasco. We really see the dynamics of the group start to take shape with some underlying conflicts that will certainly add to the adventures to come.
Mike introduces how to create a party in this episode, and of course, there are the usual inter-personal hijinks with this cast. We dive in to the opening of the adventure, and get our fist glimpse at the unique haven of Shadevale. System: Grimworld (in development) by Sand & Glass Entertainment CAST: Aaron — Jamison “Jim” Jeff — Nathaniel “Nickel” Jeremy — Justice Ciro “Juice” Johnny — Franklin “?” Jordan — Arlo “Squint” Mike — The Grim Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
Round 1 around the table gave us some great establishing scenes, with some flashbacks, and the initial meetings of the crew members. Already, we are getting the flavors of tension that will surround a few of these characters. The dynamics are intriguing, so the story is sure to be compelling moving forward. Enjoy!
This one-shot kicks off with the FOUR HUNDREDTH , yes 400th , episode of the podcast! So of course we needed to make it a special one. We are play-testing a game that is still in development with a guest GM, and friend of the show, Mike. While we create characters in this episode, he shares glimpses and insights into the mechanics of the game, some of the steps that were taken in developing the system, along with a few inspirations for this "post-historic" world. System: Grimworld (in development) by Sand & Glass Entertainment CAST: Aaron — Jamison "Jim" Jeff — Nathaniel "Nickel" Jeremy — Justice Ciro "Juice" Johnny — Franklin "?" Jordan — Arlo "Squint" Mike — The Grim Master Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
We launch a brand new campaign with the use of a cast favorite to create our characters. We also used Fiasco perviously to establish character relationships in Angel's Guard. But this time around, we'll play out some scenes as the prologue for this space opera. System: OpenD6 Space, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Vireo Ellie — Kolohe Jeff — Kumu Jeremy — Solgrin of Ash Johnny — Trum Likey Flu Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
The final phase of the game, The Desecration. The first round of the intruders have a different prize in mind, and then the final intruders spark an interesting change in how the skeletons respond. We also transition into a brief commentary on the game and how we enjoyed this unique way of telling a story... or multiple stories at once. System: The Skeletons by Jason Morningstar CAST: Aaron — The Headless Jeremy — The Tattered Cloak Johnny — The Horror Jordan — The Crawler Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, and Kevin MacLeod…
We wrap up the gameplay with a couple big discoveries, and we really leaned into the collaborative nature for these final moments. We then give some brief commentary on the game and some things we DID modify for our world building purposes, and some things we WOULD modify if we played it again in the future. Finally, we discuss the last steps we need to take before we launch into our next long-run campaign. System: Reliquary, by Gordie Murphy CAST: Jordan – Vonu’ou Aaron – Luthecin Trant Ellie – Hokulani Jeff – Nehim Jeremy – Xinoa Poe Johnny – Fillani…
We have entered The Time of Dust, the next phase of the game. Two more intruders to kill or chase off, and they are pretty horrific ones. We also get several glimpses into the lives of the skeletons before they were charged to guard this tomb, and it's becoming clear that their stories are equally tragic. System: The Skeletons by Jason Morningstar CAST: Aaron — The Headless Jeremy — The Tattered Cloak Johnny — The Horror Jordan — The Crawler Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Kevin MacLeod, and other sources…
We explore a few different locations in this episode with varying results. We get accustomed to the rule set as we create some rumors, legends, and even some questions that unfortunately will not get answered in THIS game. However, there are a couple threads that are weaving their way into the fabric of this world that we're sure will bring some interesting texture to our upcoming campaign. System: Reliquary, by Gordie Murphy CAST: Jordan – Vonu’ou Aaron – Luthecin Trant Ellie – Hokulani Jeff – Nehim Jeremy – Xinoa Poe Johnny – Fillani…
Phase one of the game, the "unsealed tomb". Two intruders, thwarted, and several secrets of the skeletons' past are revealed... but at a cost. Time passes, but the guardians still stand watch, for now. So far we are loving the collaborative storytelling in this game. System: The Skeletons by Jason Morningstar CAST: Aaron — The Headless Jeremy — The Tattered Cloak Johnny — The Horror Jordan — The Crawler Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios and Kevin MacLeod…
Here's another system to add some more meat to the bones of what we have built previously for our next campaign. We add some specific places to our world, and create characters that will set out to explore those locations, all while navigating some intriguing goals, complications and rumors. System: Reliquary, by Gordie Murphy CAST: Jordan - Vonu'ou Aaron - Luthecin Trant Ellie - Hokulani Jeff - Nehim Jeremy - Xinoa Poe Johnny - Fillani…
In just getting through the set-up, we were already geeking out about this game. We collaboratively describe the layout of the tomb that we will be guarding. There were a lot of interesting ideas that will make this storytelling game a favorite of the group we are sure. System: The Skeletons by Jason Morningstar CAST: Aaron — The Headless Jeremy — The Tattered Cloak Johnny — The Horror Jordan — The Crawler Music in the background from Kevin MacLeod…
After our first time recording a game of Microscope, we STILL hadn't had enough world building to satisfy us. So we discuss what comes next in terms of honing in on the "era" we will play in, and character creation. We reflect on some of our collaborative story-telling choices from past campaigns, and FINALLY decide on and reveal the name of the upcoming campaign. Listen and find out. System: Microscope, by Ben Robbins CAST: Jordan Aaron Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny…
In this commentary episode we discuss the flexibility of this game for a one-shot and an extended campaign. Aaron shares that there is a lot of flexibility in the game in general, and we conclude that this game would be great for both young and old, and first-time and experienced RPGers. So Good Strong Hands... good strong game. System: Good Strong Hands by Nerd Burger Games CAST: Aaron — The Game Master Jeff — Cinch Jeremy — Kryden Johnny — Graham Jordan — Jasper Music in the background from Purple Planet Music…
One last round of play and all the cast will have had their seat as the lens and legacy. We end up creating a played scene that ends up being quite pivotal in fleshing out multiple scenes and events that were already created. Fun stuff! System: Microscope, by Ben Robbins CAST: Jordan Aaron Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
Well, the whole party is dead to start this episode... mostly dead. The victory in this story must be won in a spiritual realm, and at a cost. Not all the characters will remain unstained by the evil they face. Enjoy the final battle in this fantastic one-shot. System: Good Strong Hands by Nerd Burger Games CAST: Aaron — The Game Master Jeff — Cinch Jeremy — Kryden Johnny — Graham Jordan — Jasper Music in the background from Purple Planet Music, and Kevin MacLeod…
Another round of play to flesh out the world in this episode. We decided to do a fair amount of dictated scenes this time, diving deep to look at how an individual character might be affected and even change the course of history. We also learned something new about the rules of this game. System: Microscope, by Ben Robbins CAST: Jordan Aaron Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Music in the background from Vilkas Sound…
One side-quest finished, now on to the next. Hopefully this one will yield some useful information for defeating the void. But certainly it is entertaining regardless, as this story inspired a barrage of movie quotes from the cast. Fun times. System: Good Strong Hands by Nerd Burger Games CAST: Aaron — The Game Master Jeff — Cinch Jeremy — Kryden Johnny — Graham Jordan — Jasper Music in the background from Purple Planet Music, Kevin MacLeod, and other sources…
We have all the cast back! And with 2 more minds building this world, things get even deeper and more intricate. New inspirations and ideas seem to fit and naturally flesh out what we come up with in the first session. System: Microscope, by Ben Robbins CAST: Jordan Aaron Ellie Jeff Jeremy Johnny Music in the background from Vilkas Sound…
There are more mysteries and clues to uncover surrounding this creepy monument and field of roses. But there is also a family of Wild-kin to save. So of course, we split the party. Some of the group will undoubtedly have to pull off some sort of trickery of thier own in this episode. System: Good Strong Hands by Nerd Burger Games CAST: Aaron — The Game Master Jeff — Cinch Jeremy — Kryden Johnny — Graham Jordan — Jasper Music in the background from Purple Planet Music…
One more quick round of play for this initial world build. Jeremy takes a turn as the lens, and Jordan closes it out as the legacy. With that combination, our timeline ended up with a "dark" era... or period. We can't decide which term to use. But on thing that we ARE certain of this that we love this world we are creating so far. We hope you will too. System: Microscope, by Ben Robbins CAST: Jordan Aaron Jeremy Johnny…
In this episode, visions, dreams, and mysterious voices have lead us to the Sorrow Sworn Fields. Jordan's GM style creeps into his character play, and some self imposed complications come about. But let's be honest, that's not a real departure from the other usual suspects style of play. System: Good Strong Hands by Nerd Burger Games CAST: Aaron — The Game Master Jeff — Cinch Jeremy — Kryden Johnny — Graham Jordan — Jasper Music in the background from Purple Planet Music…
In this episode we make our first pass, adding eras (periods) and events. Then Aaron and Jordan take their turns as the lens. We take the opportunity to add to the timeline with all aspects of the game; eras, events, a dictated scene, a roleplayed scene, and legacies. System: Microscope, by Ben Robbins CAST: Jordan Aaron Jeremy Johnny Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
Aaron's in the GM seat again for this one, and he admits that has tweaked the story in advance to prepare for our normal plot hijacking hijinks. In this first episode of the fantasy game, we introduce our unique characters and set out on an "adventure". But to one character, an "adventure" is something completely different. Either way, this party definitely will be the daisy in a field of roses. System: Good Strong Hands by Nerd Burger Games CAST: Aaron — The Game Master Jeff — Cinch Jeremy — Kryden Johnny — Graham Jordan — Jasper Music in the background from Purple Planet Music…
We're on to our next long-term campaign. But before we get to the story, we thought we'd share a bit of the journey of how we get there. This will be our third world we've built for our campaigns using this game, Microscope. Needless to say we really enjoy this method. In this episode we cover our inspirations, pallet (yeses and nos), the big idea for our story, and the bookends of the timeline. System: Microscope, by Ben Robbins CAST: Jordan Aaron Jeremy Johnny…

What's it going to take for the Spaceheads to make a decision on their future? A Loan Shark, dirty money, and a couple shady pacts may play a vital role of two in the fate of music in the galaxy. Seems a bit grandiose? We thought so too, but you have to see how it all turned out. System: Kingdom, 2nd Edition by Ben Robbins CAST: Aaron – Norival Norstrom Jeff – Dolan Bonn Jeremy – Sherman Octavius “Shoc” Johnny – Galvin Transor Jordan – Belzan Oxide Music in the background from Epidemic Sound…
Well, here it is, the send off for a 4 season campaign. In this episode, we highlight what made this adventure and its characters different from our previous long-term campaigns. All in all, we give this elemental saga an A+, and we hope you do as well. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games Character Advancement: Aaron (Sam Feluge and Shade) Best Roleplay: Jeff (Jerr Lan) Who Brought the best Snack: Jeff (Garlic Shrimp Pizza) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chime North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
Crossroad or Crisis? Will the band, The Spaceheads, take a gig on Earth on the next stop on the Space Jam Tour? There are a lot of obstacles on the road to fame and fortune; low funds, label pressure, restraining orders... and a possible line up change. Whether this opportunity is a good thing or not remains to be seen, but there is definitely tension, turmoil, and talking behind each others' back. System: Kingdom, 2nd Edition by Ben Robbins CAST: Aaron – Norival Norstrom Jeff – Dolan Bonn Jeremy – Sherman Octavius “Shoc” Johnny – Galvin Transor Jordan – Belzan Oxide Music in the background from Epidemic Sound…
We finish fleshing out the characters in this episode, choosing roles, concepts, descriptions, names, locations, and bonds with other characters. With each element we add, the tension in the kingdom is already mounting. The stage is set for a dramatic tour of the galaxy. System: Kingdom, 2nd Edition by Ben Robbins CAST: Aaron - Norival Norstrom Jeff - Dolan Bonn Jeremy - Sherman Octavius "Shoc" Johnny - Galvin Transor Jordan - Belzan Oxide Music in the background from Epidemic Sound…
Well, we set out to reunite the party only to split it even further. Someone seems to be following a new directive, and another epic display of elemental powers is the result. But the fallout is going require a leap of faith to escape certain death. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Kevin MacLeod, and Joshua Empyre…
Since we really love world-building during our Bone Throwers Theater sessions, we had a lot of fun kicking off this one-shot, brainstorming on what types of characters and threats we would face in our kingdom. We also decided to define our kingdom as a touring band... in space. Yeah, that's right, another space adventure. System: Kingdom, 2nd Edition by Ben Robbins CAST: Aaron Jeff Jeremy Johnny Jordan Music in the background from Epidemic Sound…
The remaining party starts a mad scramble up to the top of the Council building, but it won't be an unhindered attempt. Meanwhile, Jerr Lan faces a challenge of his own, a showdown with 2 Council members and a sought after elemental, and his use of power certainly does not disappoint. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios, Kevin MacLeod, Audionautix.com, and Scott Buckley…
We wrap up this one-shot with a quick commentary on the story, its intricacies, and some of the hints the players either picked up on or missed entirely in the session. We also talk about some of the aspects of the game system that we enjoyed, and how the add-on memory mechanic made this an all around enjoyable run. System: Shadowrun, 4th Edition by Catalyst Game Labs CAST: Aaron – Deacon (Dwarf) Johnny – Ork Jordan – Jinx (Elf) Jeremy — The Game Master Music in the background from Gavin and Marshall Parker…
Yes, with only a few episodes left in this 4 season campaign, we still love world building, postulating the origins of North Bellasaira. We talk a bit about what we see as possible endings to this story, and get a sneak peek into what Jordan is planning for the next campaign. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games Character Advancement: Johnny (Chime North) Best Roleplay: Jeremy (Julian Illix) Who Brought the best Snack: Jeff (Biscoff Nutella Cheesecake) CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chime North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios…
There were a lot of twists and turns in this episode leading up to the big showdown with May... or is it spelled Mei, as on player speculates? Magic, gunfire, explosions, and of course a double cross stir things up. But even as the dust just begins to settle, the players discover one final twist in this mission. System: Shadowrun, 4th Edition by Catalyst Game Labs CAST: Aaron – Deacon (Dwarf) Johnny – Ork Jordan – Jinx (Elf) Jeremy — The Game Master Music in the background from Gavin and Marshall Parker, Kevin MacLeod, and Daniel Birch…
Some say that two are better than one, but our players wouldn't... especially when it's TWO COUNCIL MEMBERS in an elemental and innate powers fight. The results of the showdown are plenty of carnage and one party member suddenly in dire straits. System: OpenD6 Adventure, from West End Games CAST: Jordan — The Game Master Aaron — Sam Feluge Ellie — Archi Jeff — Jerr Lan Jeremy — Julian Illix Johnny — Chine North Music in the background from Fesliyan Studios and Scott Buckley…
