Proclamation! For the 15th Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday 1 September 2024 Who Do You Say I Am? Today we welcome a special guest preacher, David Alenskis, who engages with Mark’s gospel and asks, how does Jesus ask those around him to re-examine their values? Jesus is asked why he lets his disciples eat without washing their hands in the properly designated way. Jesus challenges the traditions of the ancestors and focuses on the inner life of a person, “what comes out of us is more important than what goes into us.” *** Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/churchwithreddoor/ If you would like to speak with Reverend Shelley to have a conversation about life or faith, personal concerns or in the case of a pastoral emergency, please call the church office and a time can be arranged. 416-699-6512 Tell your friends about Proclamation! Proclamation! For the 12th Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday 11 August 2024 While Reverend Shelley enjoys a summer break, we are joined today by the Reverend Catherine Sider Hamilton. Reverend Catherine tells us the story of an uprising of a son against his own father, and the battle in which that son, Absalom, was killed. Even though it was an uprising against his own leadership, David wept and cried aloud, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!” *** Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/churchwithreddoor/ If you would like to speak with Reverend Shelley to have a conversation about life or faith, personal concerns or in the case of a pastoral emergency, please call the church office and a time can be arranged. 416-699-6512 Tell your friends about Proclamation! Proclamation! For the 10th Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday 28 July 2024 While Reverend Shelley enjoys a summer break, Warden Gillian Eley takes to the pulpit to share an inspirational message on the grounding and deepening power of prayer. In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians (3:14-21), Gillian uncovers a love letter to a community that Paul is urging to be transformed through the power of prayer. Paul describes how he kneels when he prays because he is overwhelmed and humbled in the presence of the love of Christ. *** Like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/churchwithreddoor/ If you would like to speak with Reverend Shelley to have a conversation about life or faith, personal concerns or in the case of a pastoral emergency, please call the church office and a time can be arranged. 416-699-6512 Tell your friends about Proclamation! Proclamation! For the 7th Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday 7 July 2024 Boast of my Weaknesses Despite the many challenges that Paul faced, Reverend Shelley McVea explains how Paul could still say that he will “boast of his weaknesses” because he experienced the power of God to transform his sufferings and enabling him to be content. For the fourth Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday 16 June 2024 Walking by Faith Today Reverend Shelley McVea ponders what it means to walk ‘by faith and not by sight’. Does it mean that we accept beliefs without truly thinking about what we believe and that we may not have a handle on what’s really going on in the world. But Shelley doesn’t think that is the case. Many of us experience the harsh realities of this life: even so, we can navigate our journey through the real world using our faith in Jesus to guide us with compassion and mercy. For the second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Sunday 9 June 2024 Familes and Forgiveness Today Reverend Shelley McVea reminds us that we all come from families, some better, some worse, and even Jesus had a family. We know of his birth to Joseph and Mary, and of Jesus’ presentation to the synagogue in his youth, but most of what we know about Jesus comes from the time when he was not with his family. Most of what we know about Jesus comes from the time when he travelled with his apostles and preached a revolutionary message for the forgiveness of sins. For the first Sunday in Ordinary Time, Sunday 2 June 2024 The Lord Seaches and Will Find Us Today Reverend Shelley McVea reflects on Psalm 139: a prayer to God that expresses the awesomeness of God. As we seek for God, God also searches for us, knows who we are, and will find us, no matter where we are.
